Disinfection purpose

Air and surface disinfection in hospitals and medical centres is crucial nowdays. Modern quality standards require high level of disinfection while costly downtime of expensive medical equipment, which cannot be used during the room disinfection, require reduced disinfection time.

The task is even more challenging due to the spread of HAI (health-care associated infection; previously known as nosocomial infections) caused by pathogens that are resistant to most modern antibiotics and highly resistant to chemical disinfectants.

The level of microbial contamination in hospitals and medical centres is estimated by the total bacterial count (TBC) that indicates how many microorganisms are present in a certain volume or on a certain surface and special sanitary indicator microorganisms like Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and coliform bacteria. TBC and other mentioned microorganisms indicate possible presence of pathogens.

It is obvious that regular UV doses used for disinfection of Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli (6.6 mJ/cm2) are too low, for example, for disinfection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (10.5 mJ/cm2) and Rotavirus (24 mJ/cm2), which are the most common cause of HAI.

That is why we are convinced that UV equipment should provide reliable disinfection against TBC that will prove its effectiveness against a wide range of microorganisms, including pathogens.


The currently widely used irradiators are equipped with low pressure mercury lamps mainly low-output. They are not able to provide a UV dose for fast and reliable UV disinfection of air and surfaces in terms of TBC.

High-output irradiators SVETOLIT reduce TBC level close to zero values in a very short time and together with other disinfection methods significantly reduce the HAI risk in the medical centres.

High-power germicidal UV irradiator SVETOLIT provides necessary UV doses for fast indoor disinfection (few minutes), covering a broad range of microorganisms incl. MRSA & SARS-CoV.

A room can be occupied right after disinfection. Ozone-free amalgam lamps do not require room ventilation after UV treatment.

Zero pollution when an amalgam lamp is broken in a room. In contrast with conventional low-pressure mercury lamp amalgam lamps are not subject to special disposal.

All irradiators are made of high quality stainless steel and their components are resistant to UV irradiation and chemical disinfectants. The irradiators can operate for several years without lamp replacement (lamp life – 12,000 hours of continuous operation).
