Northern water treatment plant. St. Petersburg
Starting December 2007 all drinking water that St. Petersburg receives is disinfected with ultraviolet, an innovation that no other city in the world can boast of. UV plants have been in use at the Main Water Treatment Plant (WTP) for three years. Providing strong protection from microbiological and viral pollution, this technology has proven to be very safe and reliable.
At the end of December, 2007 a 3-unit UV plant was commissioned in conformity with Technical Reconstruction Program. The plant with a total capacity of 1 584 000 m3/day is manufactured by NPO LIT. Water from Northern WTP is consumed by the right-bank communes of St. Petersburg. Safety of drinking water is ensured by modern technologies based on sodium hypochlorite application and UV disinfection.
