Within the frameworks of the Reconstruction and Development Program for Water Supply System of St. Petersburg, modern methods of water treatment are introduced at the water intake in Korchmino that provides a large regional center, Kolpino, with water. Unhealthy liquid chlorine is replaced by sodium hypochlorite and UV water treatment. A UV disinfection system with a capacity of 250 000 m³/day was commenced in March 2007.  Now the residents of Kolpino, the largest community in the St. Petersburg suburb area (as well as in the Leningrad Region) are provided with water of guaranteed quality.
