Almost untouched by human activity, national park Czech (aka Bohemian) Switzerland is a unique area. It covers an area of almost 79 km2 and neighbours the Saxon Switzerland National Park situated on the German side of the border. It is a part of the larger territory of the Elbe Sandstones, which has been called Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland for nearly two centuries. It is a world of rock towers, bridges and gates, a world full of miraculous stone shapes resembling honeycombs or hourglass. However, the rocky realm is not an empire of dead stone; it hosts the rarest animals and most remarkable plants. There are some 36 towns and villages in the area among which is Chribska renowned as the oldest operating glassworks in the country. It was established in 1414 and has exported its production all over Europe since the Middle Ages. Nowadays the place is very popular with both international tourists and Czechs. This puts the place among tourist business priorities, with local authorities aspiring to make the place an ever growing tourist attraction with every amenity available. Thus, in January 2007, a new LIT UV system started operation at Chribska WTP, with a capacity of 7800 cubic meters per day. The system aims to increase the quality of potable water supplied in the town and bring it in line with EU standards.
