With two million residents Suzhouis a small, by Chinese standards, town located just two hours drive from Shanghai. You would be quite justified in calling the town “Chinese Venice” for the town is built on water. With over 2500 years of history Suzhouis nationally renowned for its cultural and historical legacy.Tourists are usually much surprised to learn that one of the most ancient Chinese cities is home to many computer production facilities manufacturing laptops, LCD monitors, hard disks and other electronic components. Old monuments and brand-new facilities exist side by side with no damaging effect. Production gives a boost to the economy not only of the town but of Chinaas a whole.Nowadays the town is witnessing many construction projects for High-Tech industry in a relatively new part of the town specially allocated by the Chinese government for the purpose. Increasing pressure on water discharge systems resulted in the reconstruction of the old and development of the new municipal WWTP’s. LIT Technology was commissioned to supply UVGI equipment and supervise its installation for the projects to disinfect tertiary waste water.  The two LIT’s UVGI plants commenced operations in January 2006, both with capacities 100 000 m3/day. The UVGI plants are composed of horizontal channel modules with high intensity UVGI amalgam lamps (350 W) equipped with mechanical cleaning systems for quartz sleeves. Water quality dependent variable output power systems are aimed at saving power. LIT’s regulating gates made of stainless steel serve to maintain water level in channels. The plants are operated from the central operator’s room through industrial interface.

The new UVGI plants will ease anthropogenic burden on the environment.  In this way economic development here is counterbalanced by environment-oriented activities.
