SWTP, Saint-Petersburg. Adding to the ecological integrity of the Baltic.

The leaders of Sweden and Finland joined President Vladimir Putin on 23 September, 2005, to inaugurate a wastewater treatment plant (South West Waste Water Treatment Plant (SWTP)) in St. Petersburg in the latest effort to cut back on the copious pollutants flowing into the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea

The new waste water treatment plant enjoys all state-of-the-art technologies of waste water treatment including UV disinfection prior to discharge into the Gulf of Finland.

The UV plant by the LIT company for the project comes as an open-channel system based on vertical UV modules with high output amalgam lamps.

The capacity of the UV plant is 330 000 m3/day, which places the plant among one of the largest waste water UV disinfection plants in Europe.
